Amateur golfers of all handicap levels are, to some degree, obsessed with hitting long tee shots and thus are always looking for new ways to increase their power-driving quotient by at least ten yards and, ideally, twenty yards – or more! I can prove this, based on the success of “Ten More Yards,” the instructional series I created when, formerly, the senior instruction editor of GOLF Magazine, feedback from our publication’s subscriber-surveys, talking to golfers I’ve played with at various private country club and public courses, and from the letters I received from newsstand buyers of golf magazines.
Due to golfers everywhere showing a strong desire to learn how to hit long drives, I figured an idea for writing a book entitled, Play Like Sergio Garcia, was a “given.” As it turned out I was right, but timing played also played a role in this book being published.
At the time I submitted my proposal to my agent, Scott Waxman, who, shortly thereafter, pitched the book to G.P. Putnam’s, a division of Penguin Putnam, Sergio Garcia was ranked # 1 on the PGA TOUR’s “Total Driving” statistics list, meaning the Spaniard was golf’s most powerfully accurate player.
With statistics and serendipity on my side, and the green light to publish from G.P. Putnam’s Sons and Perigee Books, I started writing Play Like Sergio Garcia; an instructional text that is now complete, available, and a book that will serve as your guidebook to hitting controlled-power shots with your driver – Sergio Garcia’s way.
